Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean on Saturday gave a ray of hope for the Indian Footballers to ply their trade in EPL, when he stated that Indian players will be playing in the EPL in not too distant future.

Kean and Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen were in India following the cancellation of the club’s proposed visit after the Mumbai carnage, where they were supposed to play a friendly against Pune FC in Pune. Watching an inter-school tournament in Pune, Kean was surprised to see the enthusiasm and the standard of football.

“I was very excited, surprised by what I saw today at a local football tournament. Cricket is a massive sport in India, so we were surprised to see young boys not just participating but playing at a very good technical level,” he said.

The Kiwi was of the opinion that, the presence of Venky’s Blackburn, makes a good chance for the Indians to try and play in the Premier League. “With the closeness we have with Venky’s now, it’s only a matter of time that an Indian player will play in the EPL.”

Nelsen in his address to the Media on behalf of the team expressed his disappointment over the trips cancellation, but look forward to the tour in October. “On behalf of the team, I would like to say how disappointed the players are but they are eager to come in October and play here,” said Nelsen.
