Casemiro has become Real Madrid’s midfield engine

Carlos Henrique Casemiro is one of the hottest names in the football fraternity right now. The major reason for his rise within news outlets is the fact that Real Madrid have gone into a drawing slump ever since he got injured.

Indeed, the Los Blancos have drawn four games in four in his absence. It seems that for all the money they have spent over the years to purchase flashy players, without a not-so-charismatic player to do the dirty work, it is pointless.

No future outside Real Madrid

When asked about the possibility of representing Madrid’s bitter rivals, Barcelona, in the future, he opined that it was impossible since he is a Real Madrid supporter. "I'll never play in Barcelona because in Spain I am a Real Madrid supporter," he said.

"Real Madrid is much more than I expected. I love waking up in the morning and going to Valdebebas [Madrid's training base],” the 24-year-old added.

The Brazilian also went on to state how he loved the friendly environment within the club. "I love being with the players, joking, working, learning. I try to live football every day. Real Madrid is my life today."

Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar?

The former Porto loanee was then queried with comparisons between Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Brazilian midfielder was, as expected, very diplomatic in his approach and answered with the following words, "Neymar's career, there is still more to come. But all the football that Cristiano Ronaldo has done over the last 10 years is to remember for a lifetime. Neymar has everything to get it.”

The former Sao Paulo starlet then went on to state that his Real Madrid team-mate was sure to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or trophy come the next gala, "[But] Cristiano is going to win the [Ballon d'Or]."

Finally, when quizzed about the references he looks for in his position, he went on to name some of the best players—according to himself—in the defensive midfield role, "The best players in my position are [Sergio] Busquets, Thiago [Alcantara], Gabi, Xabi Alonso," he said.

Casemiro has established himself as a starter for Real Madrid. Even though he is renowned for making rough and untimely challenges while also being guilty of mindlessly running around, leaving his zone unmarked, his importance for the Galacticos can’t be overstated.

Indeed, his presence always brings forth doubts within many people’s mind as to whether Zidane’s men could do better, attacking wise, without him against the smaller teams. If the last four matches are anything to go by, the answer is an astounding no.
