Rio de Janeiro, Oct 27 (IANS) Brazil's 1994 World Cup winning striker Romario Monday expressed his admiration towards Neymar, saying that the promising Barcelona player will surpass Pele's all-time scoring record for the Selecao.

Neymar scored four times against Japan earlier this month to take his tally to 40 goals in just 58 appearances for the Selecao, reports Xinhua.

Romario believes that the 22-year-old star has enough time to break the legendary Pele's record of 77 goals in 92 games if he continues his momentum.

"Even though he is still young, Neymar is well aware of what he means for the world of football and for the Brazilian game in particular," Romario told Lancenet Monday.

He is the one player the Brazilian people believe in and he has everything to make history. He is only 22 and already near Brazil's all-time top goal scorers, if he manages to keep this up, he will surpass Pele."

Romario is currently ranked the third among the all-time scorers of the Selecao with 55 goals in 70 appearances, while Neymar is in the fifth place. Ronaldo and Zico are ranked the second and fourth with 62 and 48 goals respectively.
