Brendan Rodgers bids farewell to Liverpool with classy message thanking club, staff and fans

Brendan Rodgers was appointed as Liverpool manager back in 2012

Brendan Rodgers has finally spoken out since his sacking as Liverpool manager on Sunday. A statement was issued on his behalf by the League Managers Association where he admitted to being incredibly disappointed at his dismissal.

After spending three years with Liverpool, the Northern Irishman was relieved of his duties following the Merseyside derby match against Everton, which ended 1-1 at the end of the final whistle. The Reds’ poor start to the season continues as they now sit 10th in the league table with just 12 points. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group made no delay in sacking Rodgers and are looking at a replacement in former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, who is reportedly set to take over at Anfield as the new gaffer.

The former Swansea manager has hailed his time with Liverpool as “an honour and a privilege”. Rodgers also branded the club and its supporters as “magnificent” on two occasions. The 42-year-old manager has tipped the current group of Liverpool players to bring success back to Anfield in the coming years.

“I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club. It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years,” Rodgers said in a statement.

“I have worked every day to represent the club to the best of my ability, to develop both individual players and a team that the club’s magnificent fans can be proud of. “There have been some very memorable moments during my time at Liverpool and I would like to thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment.

“The current squad is one in transition, but they have some real talent and are showing a strong sense of togetherness. I expect to see them continue to grow and develop over the coming weeks and I wish them and my successor well for the rest of the season.”

Rodgers grateful to FSG for giving him the opportunity to manage a club like Liverpool

Rodgers also mentioned most of the people he worked with at the club -including those at Fenway Sports Group who decided to sack the Norther Irish.

“As well as my players, I would like to thank everyone connected with the club; Fenway Sports Group, the Liverpool Directors, in particular Ian Ayre, my coaching staff, the staff throughout the club, the volunteers, the Academy staff and its young players and of course the amazing Liverpool fans for their unwavering support, passion and dedication which has made my time at the club so special.

“Finally, I would like to give a special mention to John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon. They gave me this great opportunity and even though we will no longer be working together I am sure our relationship and friendship will continue into the future.”
