Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Manchester United 1-0 at home to move up to 40 points and secure Premier League safety. A solitary goal from Pascal Gross proved to be enough as Brighton hung for the three points.

Manchester United were the more dominant side in the game but couldn't make any of it count failing to break the deadlock as they were very poor in front of goal causing them to lose their seventh game in the league this season.

Mathew Ryan - 7/10

Ryan faced an onslaught from the Manchester United attack in the second half but he responded brilliantly making three crucial saves that helped secure the win and clean sheet for his team.

Bruno - 7/10

The 37-year-old did an excellent job out on the right against the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial making five successful tackles and two interceptions.

Lewis Dunk - 7/10

The Englishman was a rock in defence blocking three shots and on the other hand, completing four long balls into the opposition box

Shane Duffy - 8/10

Duffy made an impressive nine clearances and won five aerial duels that helped keep the Man Utd attack quiet throughout the game.

Gaëtan Bong - 6/10

Bong did not contribute anything of significance on either end of the pitch but did the job that was needed of him playing at left back.

Davy Propper - 7/10

Propper was brilliant defensively making five clean tackles as well as two long balls finishing off with a pass completion rate of 82%.

Dale Stephens - 7/10

Just like his midfield partner Davy Propper, Stephens too was immense on the defensive end completing with four interceptions and two clearances respectively.

José Izquierdo - 5/10

Izquidero was very lacklustre and below par playing out wide on the left, recording a pass completion rate under 70% and more importantly he did not even attempt playing any crosses or long balls in the box throughout the game.

Anthony Knockaert - 7/10

Knockaert was a thorn for the Manchester United backline, showing off his trickery on his left foot before cutting inside. The Frenchman completed a game-high eight dribbles and happened to register two shots but lost the ball five times causing the break down of a lot of attacks in the final third of the pitch.

Glenn Murray - 6/10

Murray attempted an audacious half-volley that tested David de Gea, forcing him to make the save. A bad challenge earned him a yellow card early in the second half but the forward proved to be a difference in the air winning four aerial duels as well as having two shots.

Pascal Gross - 8/10

Gross created a decent opportunity for himself in the first half when his long-range strike brought out a fingertip save from De Gea. However, the German continued his good form at home by heading in from close range to secure Brighton's status in the Premier League.

Martial squander really good opportunities

David de Gea - 7/10

De Gea made a brilliant one-handed save to keep out Glenn Murray's long-range effort. It was a busy first half for the Manchester United POTY as Brighton tested him with a good amount of shots and the goalkeeper reciprocated coming to his team's rescue.

Matteo Darmian - 5/10

The Italian was handed a rare start in the league but proved to be a disappointment failing to make any significant contribution either going forward or tracking back before being taken off after just 67 minutes.

Marcos Rojo - 6/10

Rojo worked well with his centre back partner Chris Smalling making a total of six clearances before coming off in the 75th minute.

Chris Smalling - 7/10

Smalling was once again the defensive rock for Manchester United as he blocked two shots while winning three aerial duels and intercepting three passes. He was caught offside in the final minute of stoppage time that prevented United from getting a point from the game.

Ashley Young - 6/10

Young was a disappointment going forward as he could complete only one successful cross into the box and defensively won just one tackle.

Nemanja Matic - 7/10

Matic was ever present on both the halves off the pitch as he completed three key passes with a passing accuracy of 94% along with making three interceptions in defence.

Paul Pogba - 6/10

Pogba once again was back to his inconsistency and lacked a finishing touch managing to have only shot on target out of his five attempts at goal. The Frenchman completed four dribbles and six long balls but was dispossessed twice.

Marouane Fellaini - 6/10

The Big Belgian once again proved to be an aerial threat in the opposition box winning five duels in the air but managed to have just a single attempt at goal in the entire game.

Marcus Rashford - 6/10

Despite playing the entire game, Rashford only had 42 touches. He did have three shots in total but completed only one dribble while failing to deliver any good crosses into the box playing out wide.

Anthony Martial - 5/10

Martial created three good chances in the second half but all of them went wide playing in a more central position. Similarly, he lost the ball on four occasions but did complete a fair amount of dribbles but his lack of end product cost United as they lost the game by a one-goal margin.

Juan Mata - 6/10

Mata had a fairly decent game playing on the right finishing with four key passes and three successful long balls along with having two shots at goal.

Luke Shaw - 5/10

Shaw managed to complete three dribbles in a short span of time after coming on but he did not provide anything of value when needed while going forward.

Jesse Lingard - 5/10

Lingard did make his impact coming off the bench in the 67th minute but it wasn't enough to secure his team a draw.

McTominay came on for Marcos Rojo in the 75th minute but had minimal impact on the game.
