The British Virgin Islands and Jamaica will battle for three points in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday (June 7th). The game will be played at A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground.
The home side are coming into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat away to Dominica in midweek. They were two goals down at the break after strikes from Audel Laville and Troy Jules. Laville completed his brace with 15 minutes left on the clock to seal the win for Dominica.
Jamaica, meanwhile, fell to a penalty shootout defeat to Nigeria in the final of the invitational Unity Cup. The Super Eagles went ahead through Moses Simon in the ninth minute but Kaheim Dixon equalized just three minutes later. Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria's lead seven minutes into the second half before Jamaica equalized again 10 minutes later through Jonathan Russell. The west Africans eventually triumphed with a 5-4 victory in the shootout.
The Reggae Boyz will now shift their attention to the qualifiers where their last game saw them secure a 3-2 away win over Dominica in June 2024.
The win left them in second spot in Group E, having garnered maximum points from two games. The British Virgin Islands are bottom of the standings on zero points after three games.
