Berlin - Dutchman Gertjan Verbeek takes the helm at German Bundesliga side Nuremberg.

After long speculation, Nuremberg finally found a replacement for sacked coach Michael Wiesinger after 15 days. Former Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek and his co-assistant Raymond Libregts put pen to paper on a contract until June 2015, reports Xinhua.

“After extensive talks with Gertjan Verbeek we came to the conclusion that he is an interesting coach for Nuremberg, in both, an immediate sense and over the long term. We both agreed to take on this task,” Nuremberg sporting director Martin Bader said Tuesday.

On his appointment, Verbeek said: “I am looking forward to working with Nuremberg in the Bundesliga. It is an exciting task.”

The 51-year-old coach worked three years at Alkmaar to win the 2013 Dutch Cup. However, he was sacked following a loss to Eindhoven in September. Nevertheless, Verbeek will have a lot to do at Nuremberg as ‘Der Club’ sits on relegation spot, still waiting for the first win of the season after nine rounds.
