Italian striker Federico Macheda has completed his move to Championship side Cardiff City after being released by Manchester United. Macheda signed a three year deal for Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s team and is the third signing of the summer for Cardiiff. He will join the club on 1st July once the summer transfer window officially opens.

Macheda said, “It’s a massive opportunity for me and it is with thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that I am here. He played a big part of my decision and I’m really looking forward to starting this season. Last season I had a good spell on loan at Birmingham City, but this is a new chapter of my career now and I can’t wait to get started and show everyone who I am.Knowing Ole, he wants to get back into the Premier League as soon as possible and the recent signings show that.

I’m here for the same reason. I feel that this is a great team and if we can have a good season and work hard then we can go straight back up.”

Macheda joined Manchester United back in 2007 from Italian side Lazio and had a great start with the Red Devils, but slowly started fading away from the starting 11 and since then has been pushed down the pecking order, with competition from then strikers Dimitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez and current strikers like Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie.

Macheda may have had a hard time at Manchester United but he will be remembered for his wonder goal against Aston Villa which helped United stay in the title race and eventually win their 18th league title in the 2008-09 season.
