Carlos Vela believes Arsenal should activate his buy back clause

Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela has revealed that he believes Arsenal would be unwise not to activate their release clause and re-sign him this summer.

The Mexican left north London in 2011 after three unsuccessful years at the club in a deal worth £2.5 million, that included an option for the Gunners to buy him back for £3.5 million.

The 25-year-old has flourished in La Liga with Sociedad, enjoying his most prolific campaign this season, which has sparked rumours that Arsene Wenger is interested in brining him back to the Emirates.

Arsenal, who finally ended their nine year trophy drought with an FA Cup final victory over Hull City, currently have just two options up front in Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo, with a new striker widely expected to arrive in the forthcoming transfer window.

Although Vela’s form in Spain has widely gone under the radar until now, he is adamant that his former club should take up the option while they can.

“During the last two summers, Arsenal were not interested in activating it, so we had no trouble.

“It makes sense they will activate the clause now. A club that sees that a player is performing well for three years and has the chance of having him back for just an extra million.

“If Arsenal wouldn’t pay that amount they wouldn’t be very intelligent. If we put ourselves in their position we will do the same.

“Now, we have to analyse what can be done and how it can be done. And after putting everything in order, we will make a decision about my future; trying to choose the best way to be happy,” he told reporters.

However, the centre-forward wants to make the right decision for all parties involved, while also hinting that he believes he is now capable of succeeding in England’s top flight as he has matured as a player.

“The happiness that I feel in San Sebastian will play an important role in my decision. I seek the best, not only for me but also for Arsenal,

“Arsenal gave me the opportunity to come to Europe when I was 17. I didn’t have as many opportunities as I expected and I had to try new chances.

“If I have to return to London, I will try to make things in a different way in order so that happened in the past won’t be repeated again.

“Now I speak English. I know what I would find there and what I won’t, so I could handle my return in a different way.

“But today, I don’t know if I am going to return or not, we will see, it’s a matter of time,” he insisted.

Carlos Vela scored 16 goals in 37 La Liga appearances for Real Sociedad this season.
