Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has admitted that he could hardly contain his excitement when he first heard of Mesut Ozilās move to the club from Real Madrid. Speaking to , Cazorla labelled his team-mate as one of the best players in the world and admitted to being ālike a little kidā when manager Arsene Wenger told the squad of his arrival. Not content with bagging Ozil, Cazorla also conceded that he would have āloved itā ifLiverpool forward Luis Suarez had also joined the club following the protracted transfer saga that dominated the summer.
āI spoke to friends of mine at Madrid who told me that Mesut was talking to Arsenal and that he wanted to leave,ā Cazorla told the Guardian.
āYou think, āHow are Madrid going to let Mesut get away?ā Heās one of the best players in the world and the truth is you donāt really believe it.ā
āThen one day the manager said to us, āWeāve signed Mesut, heās going for his medicalā.
āI was like a little kid.
āI knew that a great player was coming and that because of the way he plays, he was going to be a perfect fit for us.ā
Continuing on the subject of Uruguayan forward Suarez, who Arsene Wenger tried to sign last summer to no avail, Cazorla said: āSuarezās incredible. Iād have loved it if he had come; his style would have suited us,ā āArsenal did all they could and he wouldnāt have minded.
āBut Liverpool didnāt want to sell, which theyāre entirely entitled to do, and heās playing incredibly again.ā
āItās a pity heās not on our team! [Arsenal] saw some doors shut and, when they saw the chance to get Mesut, it was an opportunity to thump a fist on the desk, to make a statement. Heās a superb signing. Heās brought illusion, optimism and hope.ā
