Tomas Vaclik - 5/10

Vaclik was rendered helpless by the prowess of United's attackers and the inability of his defence to stop the hosts. He made one telling save off Young's shot.

Eder Balanta - 7/10

Balanta was constantly in the thick of things. He led the Basel charge in the brief period which the visitors dominated. The defender bombed forward on quite a few occasions to make things easy for his attackers as well.

Marek Suchy - 6/10

Suchy was slotted in the middle of the three-man defence. However, with the likes of Lukaku and Fellaini running rings round the Swiss outfit, Suchy couldn't do much.

Manuel Akanji - 5/10

First Martial, then Rashford terrorised the Swiss player. Both United forwards like running into the defenders before cutting onto their right, which Akanji failed to read and ended up being dominated.

Blas Riveros - 4/10

Riveros, given the duty of guarding the left flank and bombard forward whenever the opportunity presents itself, was overrun by Young and had a horrid time on the pitch.

Luca Zuffi - 6/10

Zuffi was one of the better performers from the visitors. Slotted in the middle of the park alongside Xhaka, the Swiss midfielder sprayed the ball out wide for the wing-backs to feed on, which they clearly didn't. He sliced wide a half volley, which would've helped his team to take the lead in the first half.

Taulant Xhaka - 5/10

With brother Granit watching on from the stands, Taulant didn't have the best of nights on a football pitch. He did try to up the ante early in the second half but there was no end product.

Michael Lang - 6/10

Better of the two wing-backs, Lang was one of the Basel players who came on determined in the second half and helped the Swiss side dominate the proceedings for a while. However, with United's second goal, the momentary surge in attacks faded off and the right-back was made to defend for most of the remaining 47 minutes.

Mohamed Elyounoussi - 6.5/10

Taking advantage of Young's forward runs, Elyounoussi found acres of space on Basel's left flank and was their biggest threat in attack. However, like most of his teammates, his finishing was poor. The winger also saw one of his shots saved brilliantly by De Gea from close range.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel - 5/10

The former Norwich man didn't see much of the ball and suffered because of the lack of delivery. He was taken off for Kevin Bua in the 66th minute.

Renato Steffen - 4/10

A disappointing performance from the winger, who failed to find a way through Blind and was ineffective for large parts of the match.

Substitutes

Kevin Bua - 4/10

Like Wolfswinkel, Bua did not spend considerable time on the ball.

Dimitri Oberlin - N/A

Oberlin came on for Riveros in the 77th minute.
