Champions League quarter-final draw: Liverpool and Manchester City to face off

Champions League quarter-final draw 2017-18
The Champions League quarter-final draw was held in Nyon

The UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw was held at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon on Friday afternoon. Champions League final ambassador Andriy Shevchenko was on hand to make the draw for UEFA.

The draw threw up an all-Premier League affair with Liverpool to take on Manchester City. While it ensures that at least one English club reaches the semi-finals, the same cannot be said of the Spanish and Italian clubs.

Draw details and Teams that qualified for the Quarter-Finals

Since this is the quarter-final stage, there is no country protection - i.e. teams from the same UEFA member association can be drawn against each other.

Eight teams qualified for the quarter-finals including three from Spain. Defending champions Real Madrid beat Paris Saint-Germain while Barcelona saw off Chelsea. Meanwhile, Sevilla were the surprise qualifiers after a second leg turnaround against Manchester United.

Two Italian clubs also qualified - the first time in years. Juventus managed to come from behind in the tie to beat Tottenham Hotspur while AS Roma beat Shakhtar Donetsk to go through.

Five English clubs entered the Round of 16 but only two managed to make it to the quarter-finals. Liverpool beat FC Porto 5-0 on aggregate while Manchester City eased past FC Basel with a 5-2 aggregate.

The final side to qualify were Bundesliga side Bayern Munich who beat Besiktas 8-1 on aggregate.
