What's the story?

Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum has admitted that he was furious with manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of the crucial second leg clash against Barcelona.

In case you didn't know...

Liverpool emerged victorious against Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals at Anfield. Two goals from both Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum helped the Reds to overturn a 3-0 deficit in a sensational manner.

Barcelona came to Anfield with a healthy 3-0 lead after their first-leg win at their home but Jurgen Klopp's men managed to pull off a miraculous comeback despite missing Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Wijnaldum did not start the match at Anfield but an injury to Robertson propelled Klopp to use the Dutch superstar. Wijnaldum made an immediate impact, scoring two goals within a span of minutes to level the tie on aggregate. It goes without saying that the player played a pivotal role in Liverpool's epic comeback against the Catalan giants.

The Reds are enjoying a superb campaign so far. They are just a point behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League finals for two years in a row.

The heart of the matter

Wijnaldum explained why he was angry with Jurgen Klopp ahead of the tie.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match, the midfielder said:

"I was really angry that the manager put me on the bench. I just tried to help my team, I’m happy I could do that with two goals."

Wijnaldum also explained his feelings about the match.

"Unbelievable. After the game in Spain we were confident we could score four and win 4-0. ‘People outside doubted us and thought we couldn’t do it. But once again we showed everything is possible in football."

What's next?

Liverpool still have a job to do as they face either Ajax or Tottenham in the Champions League final. Moreover, the Reds will be hoping for City to slip in the Premier League as they face Wolves in the last match of the league campaign.
