Serie A: Chievo president is keen to sign Mario Balotelli

Balotelli may soon be back playing in Italy

The transfer market is in full swing and players who have been deemed surplus to requirements by their managers are in the hunt for greener pastures. Mario Balotelli is no exception in the list, but given his ill reputation, clubs will think twice before making a move for the striker.

However, recent reports suggest that Serie A club Chievo are interested in bringing the striker from Liverpool back to Italy. It is also believed that a deal is agreed between the two parties and the only thing that can see the negotiations fall apart is the hefty wages of the player.

Expressing the club’s interest, Chievo president Luca Campedelli said: “Dreaming doesn’t cost anything. At the moment, it does remain a dream because we know that it would be very difficult to pull off such a move. We must take into account the obvious difficulties in economic terms, but it is something we are looking at. However, when you are coming up against the big clubs, then Chievo certainly can’t compete at that level.”

He also added, “I like Balotelli, the player can hardly be questioned. Yet, I also like the guy. I think too many times he has ended up at gunpoint.”

Mario Balotelli currently earns £90k per week at Anfield but has drastically fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp. He is training with the U-23 side and is expected to leave the club as Liverpool still hope to find a suitable buyer.

There have been quite a few clubs that have shown interest in the 25-year-old Italian. Apart from newly promoted Serie A side Pescara, established clubs like Ajax, Napoli and Besiktas have all targeted the striker at some point in this transfer window.

The Besiktas President even came out publicly and expressed his desire to bring the striker to his club, “Mario Balotelli is the type of footballer that our fans can associate themselves with. I’m pretty sure he would attract great attention. To be fair, if he wasn’t deemed as a trouble-maker, he wouldn’t be rumored to be joining us.”

“But we can show some effort and create solutions for Balotelli’s infamous troubles. I think he can change with the attention and care he’ll receive in Turkey. In short, we want Mario Balotelli and he wants us too.”

But as of now, no deal has been finalised for the Italian striker, whose agent is Mino Raiola, who have finalised some high-profile transfers this summer.

The move will see Balotelli getting closer to his native land Brescia and as per The Corriere di Verona, Balotelli indicated the possibility of moving to the Veron based Serie A team in a short sentence.

“I'd go to Chievo,” Balotelli said.
