Colombia vs Paraguay Head-to-Head stats and numbers you need to know before Match 7 of the 2024 Copa America

Colombia v Chile - FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar Qualifier
Colombia and Paraguay square off in Copa America action on Monday

Colombia and Paraguay get underway in the 2024 Copa America when they lock horns at the NRG Stadium on Monday. Having failed to win the last five meetings between the two nations, Los Guaraníes will head into the game seeking to get one over Nestor Lorenzo’s men and begin their campaign as they mean to go on.

Colombia have journeyed to the United States with plenty of optimism as they look to secure their second Copa America title and their first since 2001.

Los Cafeteros are on an eight-game winning streak and are unbeaten in their last 23 matches across all competitions, picking up 18 wins and five draws since a 1-0 loss to Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in February 2022.

Colombia have named an experienced squad, with the likes of David Ospina, Yerry Mina, James Rodríguez and Liverpool forward Luis Díaz leading the team.

Paraguay have enjoyed more success in the Copa America compared to Colombia and will be looking to secure their third title in the continental showpiece. Daniel Garnero’s side won their first Copa America title in 1953, when they edged out Brazil 3-2 in the final, 26 years before their triumph in Peru.

However, Los Guaraníes have struggled to impose themselves in the tournament in the last decade, crashing out in the group stages in 2016 before back-to-back quarter-final exits in 2019 and 2021.

Paraguay have struggled for results of late and head into the United States on a run of just three wins in their last 14 matches across all competitions since September 2022.

Colombia vs Paraguay Head-to-Head stats

With 23 wins from the last 49 meetings between the sides, Colombia boast a superior record in the history of this fixture.

Paraguay have picked up 18 wins in that time, while the spoils have been shared on eight occasions.

Their most recent encounter came in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers back in November, when Colombia scraped a 1-0 victory courtesy of an 11th-minute penalty from Rafael Borré.

Colombia vs Paraguay: Numbers you need to know before their 2024 Copa America encounter

This will be the 12th Copa America meeting between Colombia and Paraguay, with Lorenzo’s men claiming six wins in their previous 11 encounters. Paraguay have picked up five victories since their first meeting in December 1947.

Their last Copa America clash came in June 2019, when Gustavo Cuéllar’s 31st-minute effort inspired Colombia to a narrow 1-0 victory.

Paraguay have failed to win six of their last seven competitive matches while losing four and claiming two draws since March 2022.

Colombia are unbeaten in each of their last eight competitive outings, picking up five wins and three draws since a 1-0 defeat against Argentina in February 2022.

James Rodriguez made a century of appearances for Los Cafeteros in last weekend’s 3-0 friendly victory over Bolivia. The former Real Madrid man, who has netted 27 goals for Colombia, sits second in the nation’s all-time scoring chart and will be one to keep an eye on.
