Combined XI: Liverpool & Arsenal

Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczesny

With a Performance Score of 630, Szczesny is the best goalkeeper – statistically – in the Premier League. He’s made 52 saves in 24 appearances and has kept 11 clean sheets this season. To keep those clean sheets, he’s averaged 2.48 saves per goal conceded.Right-back: Bacary Sagna

Sagna has been fantastic for the Gunners this season and has been far better than Liverpool’s full-backs this season. He’s scored more Performance Score points (537) than Glen Johnson, Aly Cissokho, Jon Flanagan and Jose Enrique combined (519).

The Frenchman has won 75 headed duels, the same as he managed in all of last season.

Central defender: Per Mertesacker

Mertesacker has been Arsenal’s best defender this season and his partnership with Laurent Koscielny at the heart of the Gunners’ defence has been incredible. Not only has Mertesacker completed 93% of his passes, he’s won 64% of his duels, scored two goals and created two chances.Central defender: Laurent Koscielny

Koscielny is the second half of Arsenal’s formidable central defensive partnership having completed 93% of his passes and won 54% of his duels. Of those duels, he’s won 32/51 (63%) and has completed both of his take-ons.

He’s also made 151 clearances and 62 interceptions, averaging 11 defensive actions per game.Left-back: Kieran Gibbs

Gibbs has been an important figure in Arsenal’s defence this season and has made the left-back spot his own after an injury-hit start to his career at the club. He’s created 7 chances at Arsenal this season – only Sagna has created more out of the Gunners’ defenders.

Central midfielder: Jordan Henderson

Henderson has been brilliant for Liverpool this season and has become the club’s most influential midfielder, taking the mantel from Steven Gerrard.

The Englishman has created more chances than any other English player this season, with 44.

Central midfielder: Jack Wilshere

Wilshere has improved immeasurably this season. He’s always been a talented midfielder but he has now added goals to his game. Wilshere has three goals in the Premier League this season and scored one of the goals of the season in a win at home to Norwich City earlier in the season.

Right-Attacking midfielder: Mesut Ozil

Ozil’s addition to the Arsenal squad was a masterstroke. His arrival instilled the belief in the squad that they could challenge for top honours and his effect in the final third is telling. With 55 created chances, only Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has created more (62).

Mesut Ozil has completed 479 passes in the final third of the pitch in the league this season – 26 more than anyone else.

Left- Attacking midfielder: Santi Cazorla

Arsenal are blessed with attacking talent from midfield and Cazorla is just another of those players. The Spaniard has created the second-highest number of chances at Arsenal this season (32) and has scored three goals in his last three matches.

Striker: Daniel Sturridge

As one half of Liverpool’s potent attacking partnership, Sturridge has scored 14 goals in 16 Premier League games to take himself just below Sergio Aguero, who’s in second, in the scorers’ list.

Sturridge has won just one headed duel but scored three headed goals.Striker: Luis Suarez

The top scorer with 23 goals and highest Squawka Performance Scorer with 1180 is Suarez, who would walk into any team in the world right now. It would have been impossible to leave him out of this combined XI.

He’s completed 16 take-ons in the opposition penalty area this season. Only Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben (17) have completed more.
