Uruguay takes on Chile tonight in Estadio Malvinas Argentinas as part of their Group C tie in the Copa America 2011. Coming into the match having played one match each, both the teams would eye for a victory here as Chile would like to ensure their passage to the knockout stage while Uruguay would like to keep their hopes alive of making it to the knockout round.

Having drawn against Peru despite the star studded line up including Squarez, Cavani and Forlan, Oscar Tabarez side find themselves in a difficult situation where they will have to avoid defeat against the skillful Chilean side to keep their Quarter final hopes alive.

The FIFA 2010 World Cup Semi-Finalist had missed an easy opportunity to register a win against Peru when their strategy backfired in the first game. So before facing the young Mexican side in the third game, La Celeste would like to steer clear Claudio Borghi’s side. With just one point from as many game, Uruguay stood third in the group. Hope they can turn the tables in Copa.

However Chile is at the top of group C, having won their first encounter against Mexico, coming from behind to register a 2-1 victory. A fantastic display of football witnessed the South American underdog going rampant over the young Mexican side which put up a strong resistant.

Chile, an intimidating outfit with aggressive players in their first team line up have three points from one match and have been unbeaten in their last five encounters. Alexis Sanchez bous will go all out for a win against Uruguay who are there for the taking if their star trio of Squarez, Cavani and Forlan misfire again.

With identical records, the two Latin American sides have two wins each and had drawn three of their seven games. In their last Copa America encounter in the semi-final in 1999, Uruguay defeated Chile 5-3 on penalties. While in the more recent encounter in a friendly in November 2010, Chile did gain a win over the two times World Champions.
