Ronaldo and Gomes are good friends

Andre Gomes recently completed his dream move to Barcelona. The Portuguese international had a successful campaign with his national team as they managed to lift the Euro 2016 trophy.

The 22-year-old joined Barcelona from Valencia for a reported fee of £46 million. He joined the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne and Denis Suarez as the new additions this season.

Gomes will now be facing fellow Portuguese teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in La Liga and is very much looking forward to that battle. He also revealed what the 3-time Ballon d ‘Or winner told him after he completed his move to the Catalan giants.

“I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo, He congratulated me and the truth is he was happy for me, but now I will remain a rival of Cristiano, as I was before [at Valencia]. On the pitch there is no friendship.”

Gomes spoke highly of Ronaldo and how much he helped him out but he admitted that he was looking forward to linking up with his national teammate’s fiercest rival Lionel Messi."I have time with the national team to be with him, and enjoy being with him. For the moment what I want most is to enjoy playing with Messi.

Ronaldo and Messi have been competing for silverware, both individual and team for almost the last decade. The two have won several accolades and awards along the way but this summer Ronaldo has gotten the better of Lionel Messi.

While the Argentine once again fell at the final hurdle in his endeavour to win the Copa America, while his counter-part helped his side lift the Euros. Gomes also explained why he chose Barcelona and Real Madrid after completing his move.

Arda Turan's place in the squad in doubt

The addition of Gomes has now cast doubt over the place of Arda Turan in the squad. The Turkish midfielder is wanted by the likes of Arsenal and other clubs but despite this, the club recently said he is not up for sale.

Enrique still needs to strengthen in one particular are of the pitch and that is his forward line. Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar will once again be his first choice front three but he still needs to add players who can back them up.

Recently they have been linked with the likes of Kevin Gameiro but they face stiff competition from their La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid for his signature.
