Cristiano Ronaldo has been presented with a host of honorary certificates by the Guinness World Records for various categories in which he broke world records. The certificates were awarded to him by Guinness World Records arbitrator Mark McKinley at the ceremony on the worldwide release of a movie about his life, Ronaldo, in London. These world records have led to Ronaldo featuring in the 2016 Guinness Book of World Records.
The records acquired by the Portuguese forward are: Most goals in a UEFA Champions League season by an individual (17), Most FIFA World Player of the Year awards (3), Most Liked Person On Facebook (Male), Most followed athlete on Twitter (with 37,831,159 followers as of 15 September 2015) and Most hat-tricks in a La Liga career (25).
The ex-Manchester United player broke the record of most liked person on Facebook back in June, which was held by Gerard Pique’s wife, Shakira, who is a widely loved pop star herself. He became the first athlete in the world to muster more than 100 million likes on the social media handle, and his current count of likes is in excess of 107 million.
The 3 times Ballon d’Or winner has about 158 million followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram combined, which is about 65 million more than the next two footballers, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
During the premier of his movie, Ronaldo made a failed attempt to break the record of most selfies taken in three minutes, which is held by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The fans helped him to the fullest, however, the record was just not meant to be broken.
