Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has credited his team-mates for all the personal accolades that he has won in his life as a footballer. The Euro-winning captain thanked his team-mates after receiving the Goal 50 award for the fourth time for his performances in the last 12 months.

Speaking to Goal, he said, "For me, it’s an honour to receive this recognition again.”

The Real Madrid all-time top scorer then went on to humbly share the honour with his peers from both the Portugal national team and Real Madrid.

"It’s not mine, but for all my team-mates at Madrid and in the national team. I feel very happy and very proud.”

The former Manchester United winger then went on to explain at lengths about the key aspects of being successful. He believes that ambition, hard work and teamwork is the most important issue for someone to achieve what they want.

Nothing is achieved without ambition and effort

"My interpretation of this award is the same as throughout my career: that nothing is achieved without ambition, personal effort and without a team of colleagues and workers who support you day in, day out. That, day to day, is the most important thing."

The number 7 was then asked about how he would like to be remembered, to which he didn’t have much to say. He, however, described himself in a few words, saying that he enjoys what he does and has done so since his childhood.

"Well, it is not for me to say how I should be remembered," he opined.

"I just consider myself a football player, a sportsman who ever since childhood has given his all to be good at football, to enjoy playing and be competitive and useful for my team. Nothing more.”

Objective is to be physically and emotionally at my best, says Ronaldo

Finally, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner stated his objective of trying to maintain his peak when it comes to fitness and mental strength so that he can give it his all when he is out on the pitch.

"I believe in effort, in sacrifice and in being a good professional. My objectives are to always be at my best physically and emotionally in order to give everything I can for the team.

"My goal is to keep giving my very best to my coach and my team-mates."
