Cristiano Ronaldo believes he is not smart enough to become FIFA President

Ronaldo wants to stay away from the scandals surrounding FIFA

The current Ballon d’Or holder, Cristiano Ronaldo told Reuters on Monday that he is not smart enough to be the FIFA president, Eurosport reports. The Portuguese superstar attended the worldwide launch of his biographical movie Ronaldo in London where he was joined by a number of big names in the game including Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Gary Neville and many more.

The ex-Manchester United winger was quizzed about the controversy surrounding football’s governing body FIFA and Sepp Blatter’s involvement in it, as the Swiss is a part of the movie for a very short duration of time. Specifically in the scenes when he gives away the Ballon d’Or trophy during the award ceremony.

“When Cristiano says something it’s a huge thing. I’m not going to be involved in these problems,” Ronaldo said. “What do you expect me to say?”

Later, he gave an interview to Reuters regarding the movie. “The people who really know me, they are not going to be surprised about the movie,” he said.

The film is made by the same crew who previously directed the documentaries on F1 legend Ayrton Senna and singer Amy Winehouse. The movie has been filmed over a period of 14 months which covers the duration after the Portuguese captain won the Ballon d’Or for the third time.

“You have a chance to see the real Cristiano,” Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes said about the 102-minute flick.

I have other projects more interesting than FIFA presidency: Ronaldo

The Real Madrid star completely rejected the opinion of getting into an administrative career in football and stressed on the fact that he has no plans to become the president of FIFA in the future.

“I’m not that smart to be president. I do not worry about that or about what is going to happen in my future,” said the 30-year old.

“I think I’m still able to play a few more years of football but in the future I have other projects that will be more interesting than being president.”

The FIFA presidential elections are set to take place on 26 February which will decide Blatter’s successor, who is currently suspended from all football-related activities. The football governing body came under a lot of scrutiny when a number of officials were reported to take bribes in order to favor various football federations around the globe.

Such incidents soiled the image of FIFA badly, and it comes as no surprise that Ronaldo does not want to become a part of the association in future.
