5 possible destinations for Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid CF v Sevilla FC - La Liga
Could Ronaldo be heading out of the Bernabeu?

Cristiano Ronaldo has been the center of attention, again, with the latest news being the Portuguese superstar is reported to be leaving Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane's side has had a dreadful campaign so far. This week Madrid were knocked out of the Copa Del Ray quarter-finals after losing on away goals to Leganes. Their rivals Barcelona are 19 points ahead of them in the La Liga table and all that is realistically left for them to play for is the UEFA Champions League as they face Paris Saint Germain in the last 16 in February.

With all this frustration and agony for Ronaldo facing possibly his worst season since joining the Spanish giants in 2009, has led to strong rumors the 32-year-old may want to leave after a nine-year spell.

The question is, however, where will one of the world's best footballer be moving to next? Let's take a look at five possible football clubs for Ronaldo.

#5 MLS

New York City FC v Orlando City SC
The MLS did wonders for Kaka

It may be the last resort for a world class player like Ronaldo but in the last few years Major League Soccer (MLS) has welcomed footballing legends such as Kaka (pictured), Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Frank Lampard.

Kaka joined Madrid in the same summer as Ronaldo, a dream transfer window for Madrid fans but would, later on, learn from their careers that only the Portuguese international would settle well at the Bernabeu. Before the Brazilian moved to the Galacticos Kaka won the FIFA Ballon d'Or in 2007 for his exhilarating performance for AC Milan helping the Italian side win the Champions League that year.

Kaka found back his form when he moved across the pond to MLS side Orlando City in 2014. He made over 75 appearances and scored 24 goals in his three-year spell and in that time was also selected as MLS's captain for their all-star team.

If MLS was an option for Ronaldo then LA Galaxy might be the only American side that could afford his wages. LA Galaxy is the most valuable soccer club in America and Ronaldo's current wages at Madrid is believed to be £365,000 a week after tax.

#4 Manchester City

Real Madrid vs Manchester City
Real Madrid vs Manchester City

Something the Manchester United fans would not want to read.

Since Manchester City was taken over by billionaire Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2008, City has become a bigger team and a more threatening side by having the money to buy world class players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and more. It has seen City compete for trophies and have seen them come successful winning the Premier League on two occasions along with the FA Cup and League Cup.

The club's biggest aim is to conquer Europe by winning the Champions League and maybe just maybe adding Ronaldo to their strong squad may help them on their way to being crowned kings of Europe.

The one and only doubt of Ronaldo making a move to the blue half of Manchester is the Portuguese joining his old club's rivals where he had a very impressive and successful six years before moving to Spain.

City for sure have the money to buy Ronaldo's contract but it just seems very unlikely Ronaldo would betray his United fans.

#3 PSG

Real Madrid CF v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League
PSG are becoming an unbeatable European side

Paris Saint Germain are on the same lines as Man City. Another club with a very good financial backing attracting many footballing stars to sign and play for the club and have also gone on to win a number of trophies.

Last summer just showed how serious PSG was when they made a transfer record fee for buying Neymar for £200 million from Barcelona. Before Neymar joined, the French side has successfully brought other known faces including Zlatan Ibrahimovic (before moving to Man Utd in 2016), Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe and more.

This season so far has seen PSG reach new heights from finishing top of their group in the Champions League, including a comfortable 3-0 win over German giants Bayern Munich, to witnessing a strong consistent trio of Neymar, Mbappe, and Cavani.

PSG being one of the favorites to win this season's Champions League, which would be their first, and ability to buy expensive players could attract Ronaldo to have a new life in France.

#2 Sporting Lisbon

Sporting Lisbon v Manchester United - UEFA Champions League
Would Ronaldo consider a move back to his boyhood club?

Sporting Lisbon is where it all started for the great Ronaldo. He became part of The Lion's youth system in 1997 then joined the 1st team squad when making his debut in 2002. When Lisbon beat Man Utd in August 2003, Ronaldo's performance caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson who would sign him, later on, that month after his players urged the Scotsman to get him.

Ever since his departure from his boyhood club, fans of Sporting Lisbon still follow and praise his footballing career wherever he goes and plays. With Ronaldo being the fan's favorite in Lisbon, there have been rumors of the Portuguese international to return to the club one day.

The main problem, however, is the price on Ronaldo's tag which is the reality right now for Sporting Lisbon. And with Portuguese team's lack of competing with the best in Europe may not attract Ronaldo to return when there is still a few years of competitive football left for the forward.

#1 Manchester United

Manchester United v Chelsea - UEFA Champions League Final
Ronaldo won everything at Man Utd

Now, this is something Manchester United fans would love to read.

Ronaldo's six-year spell at Old Trafford displayed him as one of the best players to have ever played for the English giants. During his time at United, he won the Champions League, A FIFA Club World Cup, three consecutive Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups. Try and name a handful of players that have achieved all of that in the space of six years.

Ronaldo moved on to join Madrid in 2009 for a fee of £80 million which at the time was a record fee for a football player. Since leaving United there have been many transfer rumors of Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford especially in the summer of 2017 where reports came through of the 32-year-old wanting to join up with red's manager Jose Mourinho.

If United were still interested in bringing back the five-time Ballon d'Or winner then they may just be the favorites to get his contract. United have shown by signing the likes of Di Maria, Paul Pogba, and Romelu Lukaku that they are willing to spend money while being just as big as Madrid in terms of financial status.

United has a special place in Ronaldo's heart and the possibility of a return could be very likely.
