Dutch international Daley Blind has faced a lot of criticism for some of his displays since joining Manchester United in 2014. His critics showed no signs of slowing down when they claimed that he wouldn’t be a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for the team in the upcoming 2016/17 season. The versatile player who can slot in in defence or midfield was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after the announcement of Mourinho as Manchester United manager.

The Dutch player was optimistic about his chances of still having a future at United and is set to stay and play a part in United’s quest for glory. Blind says that his future was decided before stepping on the training ground and goes on say, “People were making that mistake very quick. But nothing was said and just like all the other guys I want to work very hard and get my spot in the team” says the Dutch player.

“I think in football, you never really have assurances. But I believe if you are confident and work hard that you will get chances.” “What I’m saying is not only for me but everyone in the squad. That’s what I do, work hard and I want to be part of the team.

Blind has proven himself to be a versatile player. He was signed for United as a defensive midfielder by his Dutch Compatriot Louis Van Gaal, but has also filled in at both left-back as well as in central defence. With solid performances in pre-season so far, the 26-year-old hopes he has done enough to justify a place for himself in the team.

“I’m confident with my own qualities so I have to show it over and over again. I think in pre-season until now I’m doing a great job and I’ll keep working hard and we see how it ends. That is what makes it a big club and good for players. I definitely think as a player you always have to work hard and show the best of yourself and, yeah, be confident.

Blind also had a few words to say about his club’s new manager Jose Mourinho. Speaking of the Portuguese manager, he said, “The manager is very honest. Not just with me, but with every player, he’s honest. We know Manchester United is a big club with a lot of competition.” He went on to praise the new manager and said, “I think every manager has his own ideas. This is a great manager with his own plans and as a team, we are learning a lot.

Daley Blind has made a total of 80 appearances in all competitions as a Red Devil, scoring four goals in the process.
