Dani Alves wants Jack Wilshere at Barcelona

West Bromwich Albion U21 v Arsenal U21 - Barclays Under-21 League

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has urged his club to secure the services of the Arsenal midfielder as soon as possible.

The 29-year-old defender faced the young England international earlier this month in the international friendly between Brazil and England and was highly impressed with the young players skills. He had faced him before also when Barcelona played Arsenal in the Champions League.

“He is a great player who we have met playing against Arsenal and without doubt he can reach the height of the players we have here at Barcelona like Xavi and Iniesta,” Alves said.

“He has a lot of quality and a great personality. If I was given the chance to choose, he is a player that I would sign for Barcelona.”

Wilshere, 21, has recently signed a long-term contract at Arsenal. However, if Arsenal follow their FA cup defeat with crashing out of the Champions League and fail to qualify for next year’s edition of the Champions League, speculation over Wilshere’s future will increase.

Should Wilshere sign for Barcelona, it won’t be the first time Barcelona have stolen Arsenal players. In the past players like Henry, Fabregas, Song were signed from Arsenal.

“England are a historic team which is not going through its finest period,” Alves said, “but coming up against a rival like this is always difficult. Excuses are not valid in this sport but we had players from Brazil who haven’t played much at all. Because of these circumstances, I think we did a good job. There were good and bad things.”
