Danny Welbeck is expected to train with the England squad on Friday as the Three Lions prepare for the clash against Italy on Saturday.

Roy Hodgson is readying his troops to take on the Italians in their Group D opener in Manaus on Saturday, however, there were reports that Danny Welbeck would miss out on the game.

The Manchester United forward strained his right thigh in training on Tuesday and limped out of the session to get treatment on it with the physio, according to the Guardian.

However, scans revealed he had not sustained serious damage and the pacey forward is now in with a chance of starting on Saturday evening.

The Manchester United, who was tipped to be fit by Wayne Rooney, is being looked at for his hardworking persona, however, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Ross Barkley and Adam Lallana will be looking to book a spot in the starting XI ahead of the United man.

In the blazing heat of South America, Hodgson will be looking to utilise Welbeck to help out defensively and also on the break, depending on how the Fulham man lines up the national side.

Welbeck struggled this season at Manchester United, but still earned a spot in the England team.
