Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney may need a rest or he risks injuring his groin further, admits David Moyes.
Moyes admitted his concern after the defeat to Tottenham yesterday. Rooney had missed the previous game against Norwich City with a groin injury and it now seems it may cause more problems for the foreseeable future.
The 28-year-old was a doubt prior to the game against Spurs and was passed fit but didn’t look as sharp as he has done all season.
Moyes maintains he has been unable to rest Rooney over the festive period due to the pile up of matches and injuries elsewhere in the squad.
“The plan was to play Wayne for 90 minutes [against Tottenham], but he has a bit of a groin injury,” Moyes said.
“The longer it went on, we had to try to get more attacking players on the pitch to try and find more ways to score.
“If I could [rest Rooney] I would, but the games are coming thick and fast.
“He has missed a game with his groin and he may well miss some more coming up.”
