David Moyes disappointed after losing two crucial points

Manchester United manager David Moyes felt that his side should have beaten Cardiff City on Sunday, even after conceding a late equaliser. Wayne Rooney had a glorious chance in the dying stages of the game, but miscued when played through two on one with Cardiff keeper David Marshall and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

“It was a brilliant pass by Ryan Giggs and Wayne should score”, Moyes told BBC Sport. “If he doesn’t shoot and he passes it, as he looked to do, then if he executes the pass right to Danny [Welbeck] it’s a wonderful bit of play, but we don’t do either. It gave us a chance to win the game when it looked as if it was going to end up a draw, but we had one more opportunity and didn’t take it.”

“It’s not easy [to go to Cardiff] but we should’ve done enough today to see the game out.”

Patrice Evra gave United the lead on the stroke of half-time and the goal came amidst a spell of Cardiff pressure, with Moyes admitting that he was concerned with staying level at that point.

“I was hoping to get into half time one each and sort one or two things out, [but] then we went 2-1 up. “

Moyes praised his opponents, but admitted his disappointment at surrendering all three points at the death.

“Cardiff deserved it, they pushed hard to get the 2nd goal and put a lot of balls into the box. We defended them well in the main, but for the one that counted at the end we didn’t.”

“I’m disappointed, because we were close [to three points] but it’s now happened in two games – Southampton and this game – where we’ve dropped points in near enough the last minute. “

“We gave away a stupid free kick. From that we were organised and set up, and the referee stops play and they get a chance to take it again. But we don’t defend it well enough and Whittingham puts in a really good ball.”
