Denmark's Bendtner hit with UEFA charge

Lviv (Ukraine) - Denmark striker Niklas Bendtner is to face a UEFA disciplinary hearing after he displayed the name of a betting company on his underpants in a Euro 2012 game.

Bendtner pulled down his shorts to reveal underpants with the name of Paddy Power, an Irish gambling firm, after scoring for Denmark in their 2-3 defeat to Portugal Wednesday.

The Arsenal forward, who was on loan to Sunderland last season, faces a charge of “improper conduct”, UEFA said in a website statement.

The alleged offence relates to law four of the Laws of the Game, which covers players’ clothing.

An amendment to the law specifically bans players revealing “undergarments showing slogans or advertising”.

Bendtner’s case will be heard Monday, UEFA said.
