Deportivo's 4-0 win against Levante being investigated over possible match-fixing

The game played between Deportivo La Coruna and Levante on 13th April, which Deportivo La Coruna won by 4-0 is being investigated by the Spanish football league over a possible case of match-fixing. The 4-0 thrashing of Levante saw Juan Carlos Valeron scoring for Deportivo La Coruna in the 11th minute, Pizzi doubling the lead after 19 minutes and Nelson Oliveira scoring to make it 3-0 in the 27th minute.

Deportivo, who are battling for relegation from La Liga, scored thrice in the first 16 minutes of the game.

After the match, the local media reported that midfielder Javier Barkero accused some of his his team-mates of not trying in the game.

A Spanish football league spokesman said: “Any game where there’s suspicion will be investigated.”

Levante have issued a statement on their website saying that they will “help and collaborate with any investigation.”
