In a game between Dynamo Kiev and FC Dnipro in the Ukrainian Premier League, Dynamo’s captain Oleg Gusev was knocked out cold during a set piece when Dnnipro’s goalkeeper jumped in the air to claim a ball and his knee collided with Gusev’s face.

Gusev was on the floor instantly, barely moving, as play continued. But Dnipro’s Jaba Kankava saw the incident and realized immediately that Gusev needed help.

Gusev had swallowed his tongue after the collision, leading to his windpipe being blocked – a dangerous situation if the player is unconscious as he could suffocate and die. Kankava immediately knelt beside him, put his fingers into his mouth and dislodged Gusev’s tongue as the medical staff arrived to check on him, leading to the entire stadium, players and staff applauding his efforts to save Gusev’s life.

Truly remarkable and hats off to Kankava for knowing exactly what to do in such a situation!
