Does Suarez deserve a tad more respect?

After all the Uruguayan has said and done in the past 2 and a half years, you could be mistaken for thinking controversial is his middle name.At a club with such proud traditions, fans and pundits alike have commented on how Suarez’s actions Racism/Diving/Biting) would have messrs Shankly and Paisley turning in their graves. This is all before his rather public and persistent outbursts this summer. You could say he’s taken all the support he’s been given after being identified as public enemy no 1, and wiped his bottom with it.

Fans are calling for him to be sold, burning his shirts and verbally abusing the player on social media platforms. Maybe he has done things wrong and maybe he has besmirched the good name of Liverpool Football Club, but his on the field attributes make him the most watchable player in the Premier League and for me was the stand out Player of the Year 2012/13.

For his goals, assists and general work ethic should he perhaps be better treated by the punters? Whenever he has played he has put his heart and soul into his job, turning his blood to water to bring success to Liverpool. His roar of emotion after his 2nd free kick against Zenit in the Europa League, his obvious distress at the final whistle are just two examples of his passion when wearing the famous red of Liverpool.

The way he has gone about his business has been terrible and I side with the fans in their response, but after all he’s done on the pitch I think some slight leniency is in order, after all he is paid to do his job and bar a couple of messy incidents, he has done that. There’s no doubt if and when he plays for Liverpool this season, his attitude and work ethic will again be world class, for him it has to be or no club will want him next summer.

The frustration on the terraces is understandable and something I completely agree with but people are looking beyond what he’s done for the club on the pitch, without him we could’ve been a mid table side. He deserves a little bit better than that, not a lot but a bit more, supporters can be fickle and when their prodigal son leaves it’s the end of the world, but deep down that’s a sign of how good and how important a player he was.
