East Bengal midfielder Jagpreet Singh, who was arrested on October 30 after being accused of raping a minor, will remain in judicial custody as his bail was rejected by Barrackpore Criminal Court on Wednesday. Jagpreet’s legal representatives now intend to appeal to the Calcutta High Court.

The other two accused players – Prayag United midfielder Baldeep Singh and Jaspal Parmar, who has been released by East Bengal, are still absconding.

All three players have represented India at senior international level with Jagpreet having also played for JCT and Churchill Brothers at club level.

Jagpreet is yet to make his East Bengal debut but the club believes the 24-year-old is innocent as they claim that he was at the Salt Lake Stadium during their match against Pune FC on the day (October 29) the incident took place.
