Edward Woodward has confirmed that there will be plenty of money available for strengthening the squad at Manchester United in the summer, as the Red Devils look to rebuild following a season of discontent.
United dropped from being champions of the Premier League last season to finish in a lowly seventh position, their lowest since the inception of the Premier League, while they will miss out on competing in the Champions League for the first time since 1996.
Louis van Gaal is set to take over as manager in the near future after David Moyes paid the price for a season of failure and Woodward confirmed that the club had still posted record financial results of this quarter and will have plenty of funding for new recruits over the summer months.
Woodward told reporters: ”We once again generated record revenues as all of our businesses delivered impressive year after year growth.
“This puts us in a healthy financial position to continue to invest in the squad. Everyone at the club is working hard to ensure the team is back challenging for the title and trophies next season.”
United have already reportedly agreed a £25 million+ deal for Southampton’s Luke Shaw, while the likes of Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels and Edinson Cavani have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
