El Hadji Diouf lambasts Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher

Diouf did not enjoy a successful stint at Liverpool after his signing in 2002

Former Liverpool and Senegal midfielder El Hadji Diouf has added sparks to his old feud with Liverpool icons Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher during an interview with a French magazine. In an explosive interview, Diouf declared that former Liverpool captain Gerrard was an “egotist” who didn’t care about Liverpool winning and referred to Carragher as “the biggest turkey I've seen on a football pitch”.

Gerrard never cared about Liverpool winning: Diouf

Diouf has been no stranger to controversy having previously accused Gerrard and Liverpool of racism. The Senegalese had earlier claimed that, "Liverpool isn't a team that welcomes black people unless they are English. Gerrard has never liked black people. Every time I passed him, he never dared to look me in the eye.”

Now the former Liverpool man has taken the opportunity to have another go at Gerrard and said, “Steven Gerrard is a great club player but an egotist. He didn’t care about Liverpool winning – all that mattered for him was getting on the scoresheet.”

Diouf also referred to Carragher as “useless” having had a bad relationship with the player throughout his career.

“The person I would least want to spend Christmas with is Jamie Carragher. I hate him. He was the biggest turkey I’ve seen on a pitch. I found him useless,” he added.

Diouf also hit out on current Bolton manager Neil Lennon

The 34-year-old also slammed Neil Lennon and insisted that he had always hated him and that it all stemmed back to his time with Liverpool. The pair had a clash when Diouf was playing for Rangers and faced arch rivals Celtic, who were then managed by Lennon, back in 2011.

“I didn’t know Neil Lennon but saw his face and have always hated him. He was at Celtic and I was at Rangers and the two clubs were at war with each other,” he said.

"He is a d***head and I’ve never liked him. At the end of the Liverpool-Celtic game in the UEFA Cup, he asked me for my shirt but I never gave it to him. I would still not give him it today,” Diouf added.

Diouf joined Liverpool following a starring role at the 2002 World Cup for Senegal but his Anfield career was dominated by negative headlines. He was also accused of spitting a couple of times in his career with Liverpool and Bolton. Diouf scored just six goals in 79 games for the Reds after a £10million move in 2002 and is considered as one of the biggest Liverpool flops.

Jamie Carragher hits back

The retired Liverpool defender responded to Diouf’s name-calling in his usual, calm, Scouse humourous self.
