Emre Can in a race against time to play Leicester at Anfield

Emre Can being examined by the medical staff after he picked up an injury in the EFL Cup

Emre Can was sidelined from the Germany squad due to a capsular injury in his right foot. The midfielder had joined up with the German squad ahead of their game against Finland and Norway this week.

The German midfielder had suffered an ankle injury during Liverpool’s 5-0 win against Burton Albion in the League Cup and didn’t feature in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

There is growing worry amongst the Liverpool fans as Emre Can had suffered a similar injury during Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Dortmund in the Europa League quarter-finals last season, that saw him out for a long period.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping it’s not a serious injury, which could see him miss out on another Premier League game against Leicester City on Saturday at Anfield. The club’s medical staff have stated that they won’t be taking any risks with the injury.

The game against Leicester City will be Liverpool’s first home game of the season due to the delay in the redevelopment of Anfield’s Main stand.

The 22-year-old is set to play a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s team and will look to partner either Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield.

Midfield leader and future captain

Emre Can is widely tipped to be a future Liverpool captain as many Liverpool fans and pundits feel he has the leadership qualities to lead a team like Liverpool FC. The German international could be the new leader in the Liverpool midfield, especially after the huge void that has been left in the midfield after the departure of Steven Gerrard.

“The new midfield leader can be me, of course. I have played a lot of games for Liverpool and know I am still young but I have to show it on the pitch now,”

“I can say I am a leader but you have to show it. Of course, we have other leaders like Hendo or Milner. We all want to do it - I am like that. I want to be the one pushing the team on.” Said the German midfielder speaking in an interview last month.

Emre Can was part of the numerous signings made by Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool transfer committee, one of the several players signed from the Luis Suarez transfer money.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man is definitely a star in the making and could be a vital player for Liverpool and for the German national football team.
