Jack Butland - 6/10

The competition among England's goal-keeping options for Russia is heating up and it was clearly evident on the night. Recent performances from Jordan Pickford has quickly made him a fan-favourite but Jack Butland tried his best to match the latter's distribution skills. Butland was not forced to make any challenging saves but he could do very little about the goal he conceded.

Kieran Trippier - 6/10

Trippier was truly at home during this performance at Wembley and is slowly establishing a steady partnership with Walker on the right side of England's defence. It wouldn't be a surprise if he features regularly for England from now on let alone being on the plane to Russia.

Kyle Walker - 7/10

England's best defender on the night has all but secured his spot in Gareth Southgate's plans for the summer. The performance might not have been as flashy as the one against the Netherlands but his pace provided the all-important cover.

John Stones - 5/10

Stones looked slack and clumsy in the initial stages of the game and he was caught napping at a few key instances. However, he is still recovering and needs to get more minutes under his belt if he is to become a mainstay in this England squad.

James Tarkowski - 6/10

Despite the fact that England got off to a nervy start, Tarkowski was completely unaffected by the events that shaped the opening minutes of the game. Not a debut that set the world alight but he looked fairly comfortable on the ball and was handed a reminder as to how cruel the game can be with that penalty incident.

Ashley Young - 6/10

Young's performance on the night was sort of a mixed bag, he was extremely lucky to stay on the pitch after a brutal challenge on Zappacosta. Despite starting in midfield, he was very effective when he shifted to the right side towards the end of the game and his versatility could come in handy during the summer.

Eric Dier - 7/10

The midfielder stuck to his task brilliantly and helped England keep their shape with his positioning as well as awareness. Dier was constantly looking to break up play in midfield and his adaptability in terms of dropping back to help out his defenders is admirable.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 6/10

Oxlade-Chamberlain showed good pace and movement in midfield for the hosts and worked hard in defence. However, his best abilities still lie more of as an attacking option who can make things happen from midfield. Booked.

Jesse Lingard - 8/10

Over the course of the two sets of friendlies played, he has been one of England's best performers. Lingard showed the creativeness and confidence to work out the free-kick in that manner which led to the opening goal. Purely based on form, he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet at the World Cup.

Raheem Sterling - 9/10

Sterling probably produced the best performance he has ever managed in an England shirt and rightfully earned the plaudits for the same. The winger certainly understands his role in the side and it felt like something would happen whenever he got on the ball. If he continues to play to his strengths, he could go a long way.

Jamie Vardy - 8/10

The striker proved that he is an excellent alternative option with a majestic finish to break the deadlock on the night. Vardy was lively and caused all kinds of problems to his opponents, who had to deny him a couple of times to keep the game within touching distance.

Substitutes

Danny Rose - 6/10

Rose managed to provide a lot of energy after he replaced Trippier just around the hour mark. Just like Stones, he needs more minutes under his belt to recapture his destructive form.

Adam Lallana - 6/10

Lallana was confident on the ball and was constantly on the lookout to make things happen. The midfielder's place in the team is far from confirmed but he always plays better when he has something to fight for.

Marcus Rashford - 5/10

Rashford replaced Vardy with about 20 minutes of play left and the proceedings towards the end of the game did not help him much in trying to make an impact.

Lewis Cook - 5/10

Another debutant in the form of Lewis Cook was introduced in the 71st minute when he came on to replace Lingard. Just like Rashford, he was not provided with the perfect setting to grab the tie by the scruff of its neck.

Jordan Henderson - 5/10

Henderson replaced Stones as England's fifth substitute on the night and his major involvement in the game was when he contested the referee's decision to award the penalty after further consultation.
