Luke Shaw's replacement?

What’s the story?

Manchester United are on the hunt for a left-back and they have identified one of the best youngsters in the world right now. Jose Mourinho is not happy with Luke Shaw, and has his sights set on signing the Argentine defender, Enzo Diaz.

Speaking to Ataque Futbolero, Diaz said: “I found out about it on Saturday morning, but later I did not talk to anyone other than my agent. My agent told me that they were delighted and they were going to see me a couple more games.”

When asked if he was interested in moving to Old Trafford, Diaz jumped to reply, ”It is the dream of any footballer [to play for Manchester United]”. But then he went on to assure his current club and their fans that he was completely focused on their upcoming games and nothing related to the transfer. [Quotes via Metro]

In case you didn’t know...

Luka Shaw hasn't been the same since his horrific injury last year and the player has been questioned a lot by the manager and fans. Mourinho believes his attitude isn't good enough to play for Manchester United and that he should be sold in the upcoming transfer window.

The heart of the matter

The move to Manchester United would be Diaz's first chance at top-flight football. He currently plays for Agropecuario – a second-tier football club in Argentina.

He has made just six appearances for the first team but the United scouts have been reportedly present for all the game. They have been impressed by the player's qualities and want the Red Devils to sign him up before others start making a move for him.

Author’s Take

It's a win-win situation for United to sign Enzo Diaz right now. He's young and talented, and not many know about him right now. He'll be available for cheap and if he doesn't come good, they can sell him for a similar price later on.
