Crystal Palace 2-3 Manchester United: Player Ratings

Crystal Palace v Manchester United - Premier League
Matic scored a screamer of a goal to win it for his side

Manchester United made a comeback after being 2-0 down early on in the 2nd half. Crystal Palace defended well and would be dejected by conceding a goal in the 91st minute.

Palace started the game well with Andros Townsend and Patrick Van Aanholt getting on the scoresheet for their club.

But Mourinho's men turned the game in the 2nd half with goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic doing the job for their club.

Here are the player ratings from the game:

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace v Manchester United - Premier League
He would look back and wonder how his side did not get anything from the game

Wayne Hennessey - 6/10

A mixed night for the keeper. He did make a few good saves but was stranded when Smalling scored and was beaten low by Lukaku. There was simply nothing he could do regarding Matic's thunder strike.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 7/10

A brilliant night for the defender. He did well to stop United's attack from his side and looked comfortable in the game and got better as it progressed.

Martin Kelly - 7/10

Back into the team after an injury, Kelly gave his all while defending. He won the challenges and limited Sanchez in the game.

James Tomkins - 6/10

Tomkins was having a great game until he was caught onside and played United onside who made the most of it.

Patrick Van Aanholt - 7/10

He was quick and lively throughout the game. An excellent linkup with Schlupp resulted in Van Aanholt scoring his sides 2nd goal of the night.

Andros Townsend - 7/10

A constant threat while going forward and as the saying goes "fortune favours the brave", Townsend saw a big deflection to his strike which resulted in his side's 1st goal of the night and his 1st goal in the Premier League.

James McArthur - 7/10

Energetic, worked hard and closed down spaces when United was on the move. He definitely put the visitors under pressure.

Luka Milivojevic - 7/10

The Serbian played a vital part in the opening goal for his side. He dominated the midfield but was also under pressure from the visitors at times.

Jeffrey Schlupp - 7/10

A quick presence of mind to take the freekick early on in the 2nd half resulted in Palace doubling their lead. He did well in attack and defence.

Christian Benteke - 8/10

A really good game from Benteke after a long time. He worked hard and won the ariel duels and set up the 1st goal. Defended well when his side was under pressure and almost got on the scoresheet but was denied by De Gea stunning save.

Alexander Sorloth - 7/10

A decent game from Sorloth overall. Held the ball well, and gave Smalling problems in the game.

Substitutes

Jairo Riedewald - 6/10

Coming on in the final 10 minutes, Riedewald was full of energy.

Manchester United

Crystal Palace v Manchester United - Premier League
Matic sealed the 3 points for his side tonight

David De Gea - 6/10

Again, a mixed night for the Spaniard. He was helpless for the 1st goal but should have done better in the 2nd, that beat him near the post. However, De Gea made a fantastic save to deny Benteke from scoring their 3rd goal, thus playing a huge part in United's victory.

Antonio Valencia - 7/10

Probably one of the few players who showed an initiative in the 1st half. He never stopped pressing forward, thus claiming an assist for Smalling's goal

Victor Lindelof - 6/10

Not up to his mark but his positioning seems to be improving. He struggled with Benteke at times and was shakey in the air.

Chris Smalling - 5/10

2 mistakes from Smalling cost his team 2 goals. He needs to improve his defensive skills tremendously. However, he did get a goal to his name.

Ashley Young - 4/10

No influence in the game whatsoever. Often found himself caught off guard by the hosts' pace and was sloppy.

Scott McTominay - 4/10

A harsh reality for the youngster. He was in the limelight just a week back and today failed to find his rhythm. He was subbed off at half-time.

Nemanja Matic - 7/10

He was not that productive in the 1st half of the game but improved a lot in the 2nd. He was more influential in the later stages and then the strike to win the game. What A Goal!

Paul Pogba - 5/10

A frustrating night for the Frenchman. Nothing seemed to be going right for him. He gave away possession too often but eventually managed to improve in the 2nd half.

Alexis Sanchez - 5/10

Things have not been going the Chilen's way since he moved to United. Another night to remember for him. But he did play an important part in United's comeback in the 2nd half.

Romelu Lukaku - 6/10

The Belgian found it difficult to find the ball for the most part of the game. But when he did, he made to make it count. He levelled the score with 15 minutes to go in the game.

Jesse Lingard - 6/10

Lingard just couldn't find any spaces at the beginning of the game. But when he did, he used his pace to go past the defenders. He lacked support from his midfield.

Substitutes

Luke Shaw - 6/10

Coming on with still 23 minutes to go, Shaw approached the game with the right attitude, providing an extra width to his side.

Juan Mata - 6/10

Came on the pitch with Luke Shaw, Mata added more dynamism to United's attack thus forcing the host to work even harder.

Marcus Rashford - 7/10

He came on in the 2nd half for McTominay and immediately added the spark which was missing before the break. He changed the dynamics of the game in a positive manner.
