The moment of the match came at half time when the Liverpool players walked off the pitch and the two Liverpool strikers were seen walking together while Sturridge whispered something into Suarez’s ears. It can only be guessed what Sturrdige was saying but it can be assumed that those were words of encouragement as the minute earlier Suarez had missed the chance to put Liverpool 4-0 up. Not that Liverpool were complaining.
The sun was up and Liverpool again went into the match with the much talked 3-4-3 formation or more of a 3-4-1-2 which was performing brightly. Crystal Palace went for an attacking version as well with 4-3-3 and thus enabled Liverpool to spread the play to the wings, where most of the goals and chances came from.
Suarez and Sturridge both sashaying their way into the box before finishing of brilliantly. Palace though continued to attack but lacked the finishing that disabled their ambitions.
Irresistible in the first half, Liverpool were much less intense in the second half as they ambled towards their victory. Crystal Palace took the game to Liverpool as they continued to fight and got their just reward in the form of a goal through Gayle. Ian Holloway rang in the changes as did Rogers. Sakho, who had been excellent all afternoon, made way for Agger, as Moses made way for the other Luis i.e. Luis Alberto the Spaniard.
Liverpool though were not rewarded any further as Sturridge struck the post for the second time in the match. The partnership between the Liverpool front two were electrifying and there was some neat interlink play as well. The match ambled slowly towards the end as Liverpool comfortably played out the game, but the partnership was what the headlines will be about as Sturridge was the final substitution.
Liverpool next play Newcastle United away after the international and then facing West Bromwich Albion at home. If Liverpool continue to play and pick up wins as today, then there is a real possibility of them facing Arsenal at the Emirates as league leaders. While it is still too early in the season to talk about title challengers, there is a good chance that Liverpool’s challenge will last the season.
