Kolasinac’s contract expires next summer

Liverpool could soon make a move for 23-year-old Schalke left back Sead Kolasinac, according to Bild. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international defender made his first appearance for Schalke in the Bundesliga back in 2012 and represented the club 85 times so far.

Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the 23-year-old’s comes as no surprise as he has been looking for a long-term replacement for left-back, Alberto Moreno. The Spaniard is currently out of favour at the left-back position which is currently being filled by James Milner.

The move for Kolasinac is a no brainer since the defender’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer. Liverpool has tough competition in the form of West Ham and Chelsea who have also been showing a keen interest in signing the 23-year-old.

The only concern Klopp might have would be Kolasinac’s ACL injury which kept the defender out for the entirety of the 2014/15 season. But the youngster fought his way back from injury last season, making 21 appearances for Schalke in the Bundesliga.

An attack-minded Klopp can surely use a full-back with aggressiveness going forward as well as showing stability in the back. Kolasinac definitely fits the bill and is the type of player that Klopp would love.

Kolasinac had recently put in a tremendous performance in the Revier derby where the game between Schalke and Borussia Dortmund which ended in a 0-0 draw. He denied Christian Pulisic from scoring after putting in a goal-line block and made three interceptions, six clearances and three successful tackles in the game. I

Liverpool were expected to sign a new left-back in the summer following underwhelming and inconsistent performances by Alberto Moreno last season. The Spanish left-back was caught out of position in several games last season which cost the team many clean sheets and points.

His worst performance coming in Liverpool’s final against Sevilla in the Europa League final where he was constantly seen in the wrong positions and left his man open.

Although this move could possibly bring an end to Moreno’s Liverpool career it is too sweet a deal to put aside. Going by what Joel Matip – another Klopp free transfer from Bundesliga has offered the Reds so far, Kolasinac’s signing could turn out to be another masterstroke from Jurgen Klopp.
