Crystal Palace is back in the top flight after a gap of eight seasons. The main aim of Ian Holloway will be to survive a drop from the Premier League in the first year itself.

Palace’s Glenn Murray, who scored 30 goals last season, will be surely missed as he is not expected to return from injury until early 2014. But players like Kevin Phillips, who has signed a one-year extension, and Dwight Gayle, bought from Peterborough, will be hoping to make up for Murray’s absence.

On the other hand, these are turbulent times for Tottenham and its manager Andre Villas-Boas as he has had to deal with constant speculation about the future of star player Gareth Bale.

To Tottenham’s credit though, they have been able to hold on to Bale so far. If they manage to keep Bale at Tottenham, and given some impressive new signings this summer, they will look to nail down a Champions League spot.

Let’s take a look at what stats have to offer in the Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur fixture:

- Crystal Palace were the Championship’s highest scoring home team last season with 52 goals.

- Against no other side have Crystal Palace scored more Premier League goals than they have managed against Spurs – 10.

- The last time Crystal Palace opened up a Premier League campaign on home soil, they were hammered 1-6 by Liverpool.

- Crystal Palace have scored in all but one of their previous eight Premier League games against Tottenham.

- Tottenham are undefeated in their last 8 matches in the Premier League.

- Tottenham have only won 2 of their last 12 opening Premier League games. They have drawn 4 while lost 6 of those matches.

- This will be the 16th time when Tottenham play away from home in their opening Premier League game, which is a competition-record.

- At Selhurst Park, where this fixture will take place, Spurs lost their previous Premier League game against Crystal Palace; 0-3, way back in January 2005.
