Esteghlal beat Buriram 1-0 in AFC Champions League

Tehran – Iranian football club Esteghlal beat Thai club Buriram United 1-0 in the AFC Champions League quarterfinal.

In the match held at Azadi Stadium here Wednesday, Esteghlal defender Khosro Heydari’s strike sealed the victory over Thailand’s representative at the first leg of the knock-out stage, reports Xinhua.

In the second minute into the game, Esteghlal’s right-wing Heydari eluded everyone and his daring shoot led to a surprising goal for the hosts.

Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei said although his team bagged a valuable victory, he was dissatisfied with the performance.

“We had a good start but after the goal we couldn’t score as we were inexperienced,” said Ghalenoei.

The second leg will be played Sep 18 in Bangkok.
