Yet another victory. And that brings about the 1000th victory out of a total 1358 matches for FC Barcelona. There were a total of 8 key players. They being:

  1. Xavi
  2. Xavi
  3. Xavi
  4. Xavi
  5. Cesc
  6. Alves
  7. Pique
  8. Thiago

“Err.. Dude, you’ve written Xavi four times.” Confused? “YES!” Don’t be! Barcelona won 4-0. Guess what? Xavi assisted all the four goals. El Maestro’s vision and beautiful ball control and passing saw Barca through this tie. Espectacular!

Messi, having recovered from the flu, started on the bench.

1st Half

Xavi and Cesc in full swing. The most amazing fact about tonight’s match is that our bald genius Pep decided to use Pedro as a striker and Cuenca in the left wing. You’d be expecting the usual: Cesc or Alexis to make it to the right wing. But no. You were wrong. The right-winger was none other than our very own Brazilian, Dani Alves. The right back, known for his versatility in the flank, just proved himself a notch further by doing an excellent Villa-esque job on the wings. The back three? Puyol, Mascha and Pique. Poor ‘ol Mascherano.

Cesc scored the first goal 14 minutes into the game. A clearing through-ball by Xavi gave him ample space to time and give his shot adequate pace. Xavi had started his magic.

The second goal, another Xavi through-ball, was a nice chip and lob by Cesc. Sliding right into the far side of the net. The goalie was left counting the stars that circled his head.

2nd Half

Leaper Messiah (Lionel Messi) came on in the 70th minute, if I’m not mistaken, to show his flu-unhindered magic. Xavi, yet again, nicely lobbed the ball over a truck-load of Osasuna and Barca players to Messi who headed the goal for the Catalans. 3-0 it is! (Also, Pele, you should see that goal before claiming Messi can’t score with his head.)

Xavi (yes I know it’s getting boring. But do read on), yet AGAIN, nicely changed the lane to avoid a defender before passing it to Messi who did the Xavi-esque lane-change and shot the ball in with a nice swerve. Left -footed magic.

This sealed the victory (as if it wasn’t sealed already), for the Blaugranas, who will now go with a hefty 4 goal difference to Osasuna on the 11th.
