Fifa announces World Cup Golden Ball nominees

Tournament's leading marksman James Rodrigues has also been shortlisted.

With the curtains over the Brazil mega event about to be pulled this Sunday, Fifa shortlisted 10 players for the Golden Ball award for the 2014 World Cup. The award is presented to the best player of the tournament, by the members of media and FIFA's technical study group.

Amongst the 10 potential candidates, players from Argentina and Germany, who will contest the final in Rio, dominate the list with 7 players between them. The 4 time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi and his Barcelona counterpart Neymar are some of the star nominees.

Whereas, the competition's leading goal-scorer, James Rodrigues too has been nominated. From the swashbuckling squad of Germany, captain Philip Lahm, Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Matt Hummels have made the cut. The winner will be announced after the Final on Sunday.
