FIFA fines Panama for fans' bad behaviour

Panama City, March 23 (IANS):

World football body FIFA has fined Panama a $18,000 penalty for its fans’ bad behaviour during the Feb 6 match against Costa Rica, the Panamanian Football Federation (Fepafut) confirmed.

In the match against Costa Rica, part of the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifying tournament, the Panamanian fans threw objects onto the field, reports Xinhua.

Fepafut warned if the bad behaviour happened again in the match against Honduras March 26, the next qualifying game against Mexico in Panama City June 7 will be played behind closed doors.

Panama, led by Julio Cesar Dely Valdes, will play Honduras, as part of the Concacaf’s (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) qualifying tournament for Brazil 2014.

In the Concacaf tournament, there are three direct tickets to Brazil 2014, while a fourth team can qualify in later playoffs.
