FIFA President Sepp Blatter has admitted that awarding Qatar the host rights for the 2022 World Cup was a mistake.

While speaking to Swiss channel RTS, Blatter answered when asked if it was a mistake to award Qatar the World Cup, “Of course, it was a mistake. You know, one makes a lot of mistakes in life.”

“The technical report indicated clearly that it was too hot in summer, but despite that the executive committee decided with quite a big majority that the tournament would be in Qatar,” he added.

The weather is said to be very unfavourable during summer in Qatar, and temperatures are said to be around 50 degrees.

The decision to gift Qatar the rights to host the World Cup was already met with heavy scrutiny after the death of almost 1000 Indian and other immigrant workers, and an alternative to play the World Cup between November 15 and January 15 has already been suggested by FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke.
