James Rodriguez’s brilliant volley against Uruguay in the round of 16 has been deemed the goal of the tournament by FIFA .
Rodriguez exquisitely chested the ball, turned instantly and unleashed a venomous dipping volley which crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
The strike was awarded the title after a poll conducted on the FIFA website.The flying header from Van Persie had its supporters but was a far second in terms of votes.
The award caps a great World Cup for the Colombian as in addition to leading his team to the quarterfinals, he also won the Golden Boot. His recent move to Real Madrid has just propelled him into the centerstage, and next season will go a long way in establishing him as one of the World’s best players.
