Rio de Janeiro, June 21 (IANS) The FIFA World Cup which is taking place in 12 Brazilian cities will generate one million jobs in the country.

The tournament will also inject 30 billion reals ($13.4 billion) into the Brazilian economy. The figures feature in a report released by economic research institution Fipe and commissioned by Brazil's tourism ministry, reports Xinhua.

The figures are significant, according to the head of Brazil's official tourism promotion agency Embratur Vicente Neto. Out of the one million jobs, only 200,000 are temporary while others are permanent. "It is an extraordinary human legacy," Neto said.

According to Neto, another positive aspect was that hotel occupancy in the 12 host cities was 45 percent above expectations.

Large-scale international events, such as the World Cup, will also serve to boost Brazil as a tourist destination, leading to even more jobs and income, he added.

Brazil is set to host the 2016 Olympics here.
