Franz Beckenbauer banned for 90 days by FIFA

FIFA stunned the football world today by placing legendary Franz Beckenbauer on a 90 day provisional ban. The German great has been dealt the punishment for not co-operating with the probe into the selection of Qatar as the hosts for the 2022 World Cup. It is understood that the ethics prosecutor Michael Garcia requested and obtained the punishment after being snubbed by the German during the course of the probe.

Apparently, Garcia made two requests to the German to participate in the enquiry, but the German decided to ignore the prosecutor. Beckenbauer is an advisor to FIFA’s football committee. More importantly, he was a voting member of the executive committee that voted for Germany in 2018 and Qatar in 2022 as the hosts for the World Cup. The Reuters issued a report from Rio, releasing the news besides several other sources that quickly confirmed the decision leaving football fans shocked into silence at the latest development in the murky episode.

The FIFA is said to have banned the former player and coach from “all football activities,” for 90 days. In his prime Beckenbauer helped Germany to the World Cup title both as player and coach. Over the recent many years, Beckenbauer has been an integral part of various FIFA units and has served as an ambassador for the game. The news is set to send shockwaves across the Football world.
