Rumours: Fiorentina interested in Manchester United's £18m flop

Stoke City v Manchester United - Capital One Cup Quarter Final

Anderson’s torrid time at Manchester United could be coming to an end as Fiorentina have shown interest in taking him away from the Premier League, report Sky Sports.

The Brazilian has spent seven years at Old Trafford now and has failed to ever make much of an impact, with weight issues one of many sticks used to beat him with.

Manager David Moyes is keen to move Anderson on now in order to free up space for new recruits and the Italian club could free him from his Old Trafford hell, with a loan move mooted with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

Fiorentina sporting director admitted Anderson was a player of interest to the club, telling reporters, “Anderson is a player who Fiorentina likes and is following, but this certainly applies to many players.

“Fiorentina are looking a bit, but with very specific requirements. We do not buy just to buy however, because there is positive feedback from what’s on the pitch and the group is happy.

“If the right opportunity comes we will seize the moment. But it is useless to talk about an individual name as we have many targets, and many of these have not come out.”

Anderson joined United in 2007 for a fee of around £18m, but having made just 170 appearances since then, he will most likely be allowed to leave for a minimal amount.

Should United offload Anderson?

Anderson has made just two starts all season as Moyes has not had faith in him and has played just 22 minutes since the end of September in the Premier League.

He has created four chances in his four appearances, but made only 13 in 17 last season, suggesting he does not have the required ability to improve United’s current midfield worries. He has also only scored nine times since joining the club, so there is no reason to believe that he can contribute the goals from midfield that the Red Devils need to help supplement Rooney and Welbeck.
